3 Honeymoon Planning Mistakes Couples Make
You spend months planning the wedding, finally get married, and then your honeymoon is supposed to be the part where you can actually relax.
Except sometimes the way couples plan their honeymoon makes that harder than it needs to be.
After helping couples plan honeymoons and romantic getaways, there are a few mistakes I see come up again and again. And thankfully, they're pretty easy to avoid.
Mistake #1: Planning Around Only One of You
Your honeymoon should feel like both of you.
Maybe one of you wants adventure, excursions, and to see everything possible, while the other is dreaming about a frozen drink and absolutely nowhere they need to be.
Neither person is wrong.
The goal isn't to pick one person's version of the perfect honeymoon. It's finding the destination, resort, and itinerary that gives you a little bit of both.
That's one of the reasons I ask so many questions before I ever start recommending resorts. The little details about how you actually like to travel matter.
Mistake #2: Packing the Itinerary Too Full
You just got married.
You do not need to wake up at 6 AM every morning because your honeymoon itinerary says GO GO GO.
Plan the excursions you're genuinely excited about. Explore. Do the adventurous thing.
But leave some white space.
Slow mornings, spontaneous afternoons, and deciding to stay at the pool for another three hours because you're having a great time are part of the honeymoon too.
You don't need to come home from your honeymoon needing a vacation from your honeymoon.
Mistake #3: Waiting Too Long to Plan
Wedding planning has a sneaky way of taking over everything.
Then suddenly the honeymoon is six weeks away and you're realizing you haven't actually booked anything.
Waiting can mean fewer flight options, limited room categories, resorts filling up, and potentially higher pricing.
You don't have to have every tiny detail figured out immediately, but getting the big pieces in place earlier gives you more options and one less wedding-related thing hanging over your head.

Your honeymoon doesn't need to look like anyone else's.
It needs to work for the two people actually taking it.
That's exactly what I help my honeymoon couples figure out. From narrowing down destinations and resorts to handling the logistics and little details, we'll build a honeymoon that feels like you two, not something pulled from a generic “best honeymoon resorts” list.
Planning your honeymoon? Let's start with what the two of you actually want.
